This proficiency testing (PT) scheme is intended for ISO/IEC 17025 accredited calibration laboratories, performing calibration, testing, or verification of Sound Level Meters. The intent of this ILC/PT is to provide participants with objective means to evaluate the appropriateness and effectiveness of laboratory procedures, technician training, measurement processes measurement uncertainty practices and equipment. The scheme evaluates both technical measurement capability and the participant's ability to properly apply calibration procedures, correction factors, uncertainty analysis, and reporting practices.
This kit contains a Sper Scientific Model 840015 Sound Level Meter meeting IEC 61672:2013 Class 2 frequency and time weighting specifications. Participants will generate the following test points 94 dB and 114 dB at (125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz) and report the indication of the Sound Level Meter to 0.1 dB resolution and their measurement uncertainty to up to a resolution of 0.01 dB. The NAPT test artifact has an expected SPL measurement uncertainty in the range ± (0.2 to 0.5) dB.
The PT scheme evaluates participant ability to: Sound pressure level measurement, Frequency weighting verification, Time weighting verification, Instrument linearity, Range selection, Measurement uncertainty estimation, Data reporting and interpretation
Participants are expected to be familiar with the theory, operation, testing, and/or calibration of similar devices. Participants are also expected to have necessary and appropriate lab standards, equipment, cables, connectors, fittings, adapters, test fixtures and safety equipment. Organizations must have measurement uncertainties appropriate for testing and/or calibration of similar devices.
