Framework Settings is available to account administrators. Open Risk in the NAPT customer portal, stay on Lab Assessment, and click Framework Settings. Other users do not see this button.

Use this screen to control the score range, the wording of each score, and which risk categories appear in the assessment. Click Save Settings when you are finished. At least one category must stay turned on.

For scoring categories, submitting an assessment, and running reports, see Lab Assessment. For what the two assessments include, see Risk Management.

Scale & Scoring

The Scale & Scoring tab sets the numeric range used when someone clicks Update Details.

  • Scale Minimum and Scale Maximum — The default range is 1 to 10. The maximum must be higher than the minimum. Changing the range updates the choices shown for every category.
  • Direction — Higher is better (lower risk) is the default. A score of 10 is optimal and a score of 1 is high risk. Choose Lower is better (lower risk) only when your procedure treats a low number as the better result.
  • Enable parameter/discipline operational risk — Turn this on to add the PT Risk tab. Leave it off if you only assess the laboratory as a whole. See PT Risk.
  • Require narrative notes on confirm — Use this when a PT Risk row should include notes before it is confirmed.

Scale Labels

Open the Scale Labels tab to define what each score means. These labels apply to every category that is turned on. Each row shows the score, a short label, and a description. The description is what users read when they click Update Details.

On the default 1 to 10 scale, the labels are:

  1. High Risk
  2. Severe Risk
  3. Significant Risk
  4. Moderate-High Risk
  5. Moderate Risk
  6. Low-Moderate Risk
  7. Low Risk
  8. Very Low Risk
  9. Minimal Risk
  10. Optimal Risk

You can change the label and description to match your procedure. If you change the scale range, reopen Scale Labels and confirm the wording still fits the new scores before you click Save Settings.

Categories

Open the Categories tab to choose which risk factors appear on Lab Assessment.

  1. Clear Include for any category you do not want in the assessment. Leave at least one category selected.
  2. Edit the Category Name if your procedure uses different wording.
  3. Edit the Description. This text appears in the Description column on Lab Assessment.
  4. Click Save Settings.
  5. Open Factor Weights and set the remaining categories so they total 100%. Save Settings on the weights screen stays unavailable until the total is 100%.

A new assessment starts with these ten categories, each at 10%:

  1. Organizational Context
  2. Scope of Accreditation
  3. Workload
  4. Staff Capabilities
  5. Laboratory Resources
  6. Changes in Standards, Equipment, and Methods
  7. Proficiency Tests: Past Failures
  8. Audits: Technical Findings
  9. Technician Training
  10. Certificate or Report Errors

After You Save

Saving Framework Settings updates the working assessment. It does not replace snapshots you already submitted. Score the categories with Update Details, then use Review & Submit when you want a new saved result. The dashboard shows the latest submitted snapshot.
